Gayle Hudson is a playwright, librettist, musical theater book-writer and lyricist. Her works include the new opera CLICK! (2025 world premiere), OCEAN PARK (2019 Finalist, Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference), HANS BRINKER OR THE SILVER SKATES (Dramatic Publishing; numerous US productions), REPETITION COMPULSION (Samuel French OOB Gold Circle Finalist), TEDDY BEAR (The MUNY Backstage/Onstage), OUTLOUD (Blueberry Pond Arts Center), HEARTBEATS (Northern Westchester Center for the Arts – NWCA) WINTER LIGHT (NWCA) and LITTLE CREEK (Staged readings Spring Street Productions and Blue Horse Repertory). Gayle brings her extensive training and experiences as an actress and a children/youth theater specialist to her writing.

There is this part of me I know as Creative Beast. Sometimes the Beast just takes over and devours every nourishing stimuli she can take in. Her nutritional boosts come from nature, dreams, visual art, overheard conversations, music, shared confessions, childhood memories, core beliefs, the occasional brilliant prompt, even aspirations for racial harmony and world peace. What comes out of Creative Beast is never what I expect; she always surprises. It might be an exceptionally gentle intake breath and an elongated exhalation, or a burst of fast moving fire dancing through the brain. It could take the form of a few potent lines of dialogue. Or an entire act. Or maybe the surprising lyric that becomes the song. Beware. Her jaws are fierce. Her muses are very cool and wildly colorful. And she will not be denied.
